    Dog & Puppy House Training
Dog or puppy house training can be a stressful time for both dog and dog owner. The inability to successfully house train a puppy or dog may very well be the biggest single reason for dogs being abandoned or given over to shelters. However, with love, encouragement, patience, and praise there is no reason you can't make your dog or puppy house training a successful endeavor. We think training your dog or puppy to potty both outdoors on a leash and indoors in a specific area is a very good idea. The benefits of canine bathroom chores being completed outside is rather obvious. Indoor dog and puppy house training can often save you from a nasty surprise when your busy schedule has unexpectedly kept you away from your dog.

Indoor Dog & Puppy House Training

Taking your dog for a walk regularly can be inconvenient because of bad weather, an owner who has a physical impairment, working overtime, getting stuck in traffic, oversleeping, or for any number of varied reasons. For most dog owners having an indoor potty option for your canine pal will come in handy sooner or later.

You will want to pick a convenient place for your dog to potty indoors away from sleeping and eating areas. Given another option a dog will very rarely eliminate near its bed or food. When you catch your dog or puppy in the act of eliminating where it shouldn't scold your dog with a firm voice and place it in the location where you want your dog to potty on the item you want him to potty on. Speak encouragingly to your dog in the potty area. Do not hit or abuse your dog and try not to get angry, it will not help and may encourage rebellious behavior in your canine. If you treat your dog with love and kindness it will want to please you. Try to remember this during puppy house training. Accidents will happen but be patient and shower praise when your dog eliminates in the correct location and he will soon get the hint.

There are several products and ideas available to help in house training your puppy to potty indoors including pee pads, dog litter, the old stand by of newspaper spread on the floor, and a new product called Wizdog.  Pee pads and newspaper will leave you with wet paw tracks all over your floors and dog litter will be thrown all about with each potty visit. All of these products work in basically the same fashion with the Wizdog being the most sanitary in our opinion.

The Wizdog is made of a tough plastic pan and a fitted grate that will not hurt your dog's paws. Liquid waste pours through the grate onto a  pee pad (newspaper can also be used), separated from your dog's paws. The idea being to prevent your dog from leaving wet paw tracks all through your house and making housebreaking small dogs easier and much cleaner. Solid waste is disposed of by just flipping the fitted grate over. This product is the most sanitary way to have a dog potty indoors that we've ever seen. The folks that produce the Wizdog are so sure you will be pleased with the product that they offer a no questions asked refund if you are unhappy for any reason. Check out the Wizdog at this link: Wizdog. We think the Wizdog is a must have if you're working on puppy house training.

Outdoor Dog & Puppy House Training

Training your dog to potty outdoors on a leash is a good idea and good exercise for the dog and for the dog owner too. A dog or puppy will often want to eliminate after sleeping, after vigorous play or activity, or after eating. Walk your dog after these activities and praise him each time he eliminates outdoors. Try to walk your dog at the same times each day and after eating. If you catch your dog in the act of eliminating in the wrong place scold him with a firm voice and immediately take him outside. Scolding your dog after you find an accident on your floor with the dog no where in sight will most likely not help in puppy house training. Your dog may not connect the scolding with the act of eliminating and may become confused as to what you want from him.

Dog & Puppy House Training Problems

If you think your dog is going potty far too often, is drinking water at an alarming rate, or your dog's waste looks odd, it may have a serious health issue. Please get in touch with your vet if you think your dog's health is at risk.

While dog and puppy house training will have some frustrating moments try not to get angry with your dog. We have found using love, patience, and praise in your puppy house training methods will get you far better results in far less time.
